District/Community Information:

Wheeler Central Public Schools is a Class D2 k-12th grade school district which is located in Bartlett, Nebraska.  Our school consists of a 7th-12th grade middle school/high school building and two elementary buildings.  Currently K-3rd grade are housed in one building, with 4th – 6th grades residing in the other.  We have a large gymnasium which was built in the late 1970’s and an older gymnasium which was built in the 1940’s.  Wheeler Central hosts a number of district competitions due to our facilities and staff.  Our school activities include football, volleyball, basketball, track, speech, drama, band, music, FFA and FCCLA.  Many of our students also compete in high school rodeo, but this is not sponsored by the school.

Agriculture is the main source of income in our county, with most of our patrons being involved in either farming or ranching.  Our county has several large hog units and beef feedlots, which employ a large number of people in the community.

Outdoor recreational activities are abundant in our community with close access to plenty of hunting, fishing and water sports.  Lake Ericson is a popular spot during the summer as well as the Calamus Reservoir, which is located near Burwell.  Pible Lake and Goose Lake are also close.  There are a number of golf courses close by.  Rodeos are popular, and Bartlett has one during the Wheeler County Fair.  Boys and girls have the opportunity to play on ball teams.  Our close knit community also supports our high school athletic programs with this being a recreational activity for many families.

Organized community groups include active 4-H groups, Girl Scouts, Wheeler County Foundation, Volunteer Fire & Rescue Departments in Bartlett & Ericson, Wheeler County Booster Club,  Wheeler County Youth League, Lion’s Club, Wheeler County Fair Board, FFA Alumni, American Legion & Auxiliary, and Garden Club.
